The Tenerife shopping district is opened Monday through Saturday, with limited hours on Sundays. However, one should be aware that shops are typically not opened all day, but rather split their hours of operation into two shifts, which typically run from 8:00am to 1:00pm and 4:00pm to midnight. Most shops are closed between 1:00pm and 4:00pm, which is traditionally “siesta time” in Tenerife. This trend was started hundreds of years ago by vendors who experienced little or no business during these hours due to the island’s excessive afternoon heat, and the tradition is still observed today.
