Vacation in Incomparable Santa Fe
Northern New Mexico is beautiful and mysterious and offers sightseeing opportunities and activities to suit virtually any traveler. Even when the weather is chilly, Santa Fe offers many interesting and fun attractions.
Santa Fe Art Tours
Known for their unusual, interactive experiences, Santa Fe Art Tours probe unique themes and allow participants to connect on a personal basis with museums, galleries and artists. Appropriate for those ten years of age or older, these tours allow visitors to experience everything that makes Santa Fe one of the country’s top art destinations.
Skiing and Snowshoe Excursions
Skiing enthusiasts will be pleased with the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains, one of the most popular skiing mountain ranges in the United States. A mere 15 miles from Santa Fe’s historic district, base elevations are over 10,000 feet, and the area is expecting terrific snowfalls throughout 2024-2025.
Those who enjoy brisk weather but prefer mild adventures should consider a snowshoe expedition through New Mexico’s pristine wilderness. Snowshoes, poles, snacks and hot beverages are included in most packages, and no technical ability is required, making this activity ideal for anyone who enjoys winter sports.
Loretto Chapel
Once featured on Unsolved Mysteries television show, the Loretto Chapel was completed in the late 1800s. However, during that era, there was no realistic way to build a staircase to the chapel’s 22-foot-high choir loft, and ladders were used instead. Most carpenters who addressed the problem in later decades claimed it was hopeless, but legend has it that the Sisters of the Chapel took the matter up in prayer. On the ninth and final day of their novena, records show that a man with a toolbox arrived at the chapel searching for work. A few months later, the outstanding circular staircase that still stands today was created and the carpenter reportedly refused payment. An architectural wonder, legend and landmark, Loretto Chapel is a must-see for anyone who enjoys mystery.
New Year’s Eve on the Plaza
A yearly tradition, Santa Fe’s New Year’s Eve Celebration on the Plaza begins with bonfires throughout the square and ends differently each year. Therefore, visitors may see fireworks, special performances, or even circus acts at the stroke of midnight. Regardless of which attraction planners choose in any given year, the objective is to help families ring in the New Year in an uplifting fashion. At 11:45 PM the mayor addresses the crowd, and the official countdown begins. Music is provided throughout the evening from a bandstand located in the Plaza, and food trucks are always in attendance to offer sandwiches and snacks to patrons. An alcohol-free event, the celebration is perfect for the entire family.
Although winter is cold, there is plenty to do in northern New Mexico. Regardless of which activities or attractions visitors choose, no one will ever forget spending time in beautiful Santa Fe.
